How to propagate Sacred fig

Sacred fig is an evergreen tree of the Sankos. It is a famous ornamental tree in tropical areas with tall and straight trunk and luxuriant leaves. It is also called a "sacred tree" by people who believe in Buddhism and is commonly cultivated in temples in southern China. When growing in northern winter, it should be carried out indoors. Propagating Sacred fig generally adopts the method of cutting or layering in the upper air.

1. Cutting propagation method of Sacred fig

It can be carried out in May to June, select the current year, cut into 8~10 cm of cuttings, inserted into the sand pot or wooden box, poured enough water and placed with plastic film, keep the sand fully moist, at 25℃ temperature, 4-6 weeks can take root. Before cutting, it is better to soak the cuttings base in root powder aqueous solution for 3 -- 5 minutes (concentration is 500 -- 1000 l/L) easy to root. After cuttings take root, can rise seedling to go up basin, slow seedling in a shade place for 5-7 days, and then move it to sunny place.

2. High altitude layering propagation method of Sacred fig

Choose 1, 2 years to grow robust branch to calculate from the top of the branch, in the length of 25~30 cm, ring flaking (ring stripping belt is about 0.5 cm). Then, about 5cm below the ring strip, wrap it in plastic film, turn it up into a bag and fill it with sandy loam (preferably in clivia or mosses). Tie the upper mouth with enough water, then secure with a bracket. Root for about 40 days by watering the mouth of the bag once or twice a week. After rooting, the ring stripped branches cut away from the mother, another pot for planting. Pay attention to the new seedlings on the basin, to remove the plastic film, but do not lose the lump of earth.

Sacred fig prefers moist environment, the suitable temperature of generation is 15℃ -- 30℃, and the temperature of overwintering must be kept above 10℃. sacred fig in China's Guangdong, Fujian can be open to the winter, the northern areas are indoor pot. Fertilizing water should be applied once every 2 weeks during the growing period. Sacred fig is afraid of pesticides, and once it encounters liquid medicine, its leaves fall off quickly. Raised at home, after finding disease and insects, we can use clean water to wash. In an indoor drier environment, we’d better pour clear water to foliaceous faces every day, in order to increase air humidity, make plants hale and hearty.
