Water frequently during the growing season and keep the soil moist. In winter, when the room temperature is lower than 15℃, watering should be strictly controlled, or instead of watering with spray. The optimum temperature for Eyelash Begonia (Begonia bowerae) growth is 18 ~ 21℃, and too high temperature is easy to cause coke leaf.
High temperature season, pay attention to the surrounding air humidity, to spray 2 ~ 3 times a day.
During the Eyelash Begonia growing period, compound fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium can be applied once a month, or thin liquid fertilizer can be applied once a week.
At ordinary times to carry out appropriate pruning, in order to maintain a beautiful plant posture and good ventilation permeability.
Potting and repotting: Use either a peat-based mixture or a combination of equal parts of soil-based potting mixture and coarse leaf mould. Put a shallow layer of clay-pot fragments or other drainage material in the bottom of the pot for extra drainage.
Eyelash Begonia (Begonia bowerae) is a rhizomatous begonia and has shallow roots, therefore is best planted in shallow pots or pans. Discard aging rhizomatous begonia bowerae in favour of attractive new plants.
When potting or repotting a Eyelash Begonia, simply sprinkle some mixture around the roots and tap the container briskly to settle the potting mixture. Do not firm it down with the finger as this procedure may damage the roots and stems.
The overwintering temperature should not be lower than 8 °C. In winter Eyelash Begonia (Begonia bowerae) should be placed in the shed in the morning and evening visible sunlight, stop fertilizer control water, available and room temperature close to the water rinsing a leaf every other week.
Eyelash Begonia (Begonia bowerae) usually propagated by seeding or cuttings, but you can also breed by branching.
1. Eyelash Begonia sowing propagation can be carried out in early spring. The mature seeds are sown in the breeding pot, filled with humus soil, and kept at about 16℃ and a certain humidity to take root. When the seedlings have 2 ~ 3 true leaves, they can be transplanted to the pot.
2. Eyelash Begonia cutting propagation in spring is the best effect. The top shoots of the Eyelash Begonia are selected as cuttings, about 10 ~ 15 cm long, and inserted into the culture sand bed.Spray sand bed every day, generally 2 ~ 3 weeks after insertion can root.
3. Clustered varieties of Eyelash Begonia can also be propagated by division .Divide the root system into several clusters, avoid damaging the root system, and then plant them in pots.
