How to propagate Common Duckweed

Written by Maggie

The Common Duckweed, also known as Duckweed, is an annual floating plant and is often grown as an ornamental. Common Duckweed can usually be propagated by sowing or division.

Common Duckweed sowing propagation

In the seeding method, the seeds need to be collected when the seeds are harvested, and then the seeds need to be wrapped in yellow mud.Generally, 2 to 3 seeds are the best in each ball, and then the yellow muddy seeds can be dropped into the water. The Common Duckweed grows very fast, and its seeds will grow by themselves after entering the water.

Common Duckweed division propagation

The best time to divide Common Duckweed is in spring and summer. Common Duckweed prefers to grow in a warm and humid environment, when the plant temperature is moderate. It is better to select healthy and disease-free Common Duckweed as the mother plant when the plants are separated, and then a small plant should be scattered on the mother plant and thrown into the water. The Common Duckweed has strict requirements on water quality, and it is better to choose calm shallow water for reproduction. The Common Duckweed likes to grow in a warm, humid environment, and is not cold tolerant, and needs to control the temperature when propagation. It is better to control the temperature at 20 ~ 30 degrees during reproduction rather than lower than 10 degrees. If the temperature is too low during reproduction, the plants will freeze to death. The Common Duckweed grows faster and does not need too much fertilization during reproduction. The growth of Common Duckweed is amazing. The amount of plants in the water should be controlled in the later planting, so that the number of plants cannot be too much.
