Why Are My Parlor Palm Drooping?

Written by Ivy
What if the leaves of Parlor Palm are drooping in the process of taking care of Parlor Palm? Use these skills to solve it and bring it back to life! It can not only solve the problem of drooping its leaves, but also sometimes make its yellow leaves turn green again. Generally speaking, the following reasons may make the leaves of Parlor Palm drooping. Let's solve them one by one, so that you don't have to worry about it when taking care of Parlor Palm.

SunLight Problems

If Parlor Palm is irradiated by strong light, its leaf tip will be burned, resulting in water loss and drooping. At the same time, if Parlor Palm lacks light for a long time, it will not be able to fully carry out photosynthesis, and the leaves will turn brown. What about Parlor Palm drooping caused by poor light?
  • Solution:we need to pay attention to giving appropriate light to the drooping Parlor Palm, avoid direct sunlight in summer, and place the drooping Parlor Palm in a ventilated and cool place. At the same time, avoid the drooping Parlor Palm from being in a cool place without light for a long time. Place the flowerpot in an area that can accept solar scattering, so that it can fully carry out photosynthesis, synthesize chlorophyll and promote the healthy growth of leaves.

Overwatering

Too much watering of Parlor Palm will rot its roots, hinder its absorption of water and normal breathing, and make the leaves drooping. Similarly, if the watering of drooping Parlor Palm is too little and there is not enough water for its growth, it will also dehydrate and turn the leaf tip brown.

  • Solution: we need to properly water the drooping Parlor Palm. If too much water is found, we need to air dry the over wet soil in the basin, and then plant the Parlor Palm into the soil again. If it is found that the watering is too little, it shall be watered in time to supplement the water to meet the water demand of drooping Parlor Palm during the growth process. Excessive Fertilizer

Too little fertilizer is applied during the growth of Parlor Palm, which makes it lack enough nutrition for growth, and its leaf tip will become scorched yellow. If too much fertilizer is applied, the fertilizer solution will burn the roots of Parlor Palm and cause drooping of Parlor Palm.
  • Solution: we need to give drooping Parlor Palm proper nutrition to promote its vigorous growth. When it is found that Parlor Palm is deficient in nutrition and fertility, we can carry out appropriate topdressing to meet its growth needs. When excessive fertilization is found, we need to treat the burned roots, and dilute or change the soil with too much fertility with clean water to prevent the root burning of drooping Parlor Palm again.

Pests and Diseases

Anthrax damages the leaves of Parlor Palm and reduces its ornamental value. After infection, small round brown spots grow on the leaf surface, and then gradually expand into oval and spindle shaped spots, and semi spindle shaped spots grow on the leaf edge. The disease spots have dark brown wide edges and gray white in the center. In the later stage, small black spots scattered on the disease spots lead to leaf drooping. The pathogen is a fungus, Oncidium spinosum. The pathogen overwinters in the diseased leaves on the plant and the diseased bodies on the ground. Conidia are produced when the temperature and humidity are appropriate in the next spring. In the growing season, it is transmitted by wind and rain for many times for re infection. The disease can occur every year in the greenhouse. It is warm and humid, dew condensation lasts for a long time, and there are many cloudy and rainy days, so the disease is easy to spread. The environmental conditions are not suitable for plant growth, the soil fertility is poor, and the disease is often serious when the growth of Parlor Palm is weak.
  • Solution:
(1) Strengthen cultivation management. We should remove diseased and old leaves in time and bury them intensively. We should pay attention to increasing the application of phosphorus, potassium and organic fertilizer to enhance the disease resistance of Parlor Palm.
(2) In the early stage of the disease, 1:2:200 Bordeaux liquid shall be sprayed once every 15 days for a total of 2-3 times. 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder 600 times, 36% thiophanate methyl suspension 800 times, 50% mixed sulfur suspension 500 times, 50% chlorphene wettable powder 1500 times and 40% captan wettable powder 400 times can also be sprayed once every 15 days for a total of 2-3 times.
